What is Your Why?

Disordered desire makes a trap look like treasure. Israel saw valuable gold covering the Canaanite idols, but God saw the bondage that bringing those idols home would create. Desire would lead to possession, and possession would lead to entrapment. “When what we want matters more than what God has said, a trap can look like a treasure.” God wanted His Word, rather than the idols of the surrounding culture, to shape Israel’s homes and future.
God seeks the motivation beneath our actions because good intentions cannot make disobedience righteous. Consequentialism assumes that an action is acceptable when it produces the result we want, but “you do not get godly fruits from ungodly means.” God asks why we want what He has forbidden, why we are willing to disobey to obtain it, and why our desired result matters more than following Him. “God is after your why.”
God opposes whatever deforms, enslaves, and destroys the people He loves. Loving what God loves requires hating evil without hating people, while spiritual maturity means no longer mourning what separated us from God. The Father’s correction is not an attempt to deprive us but preparation for abundant life. The cross proves that God is for us, and His instructions flow from love rather than rejection. “You can trust God’s preparation because you can trust the Father’s heart.”
