This Sunday, Pastor Carl continued our Summer of Faith series by teaching Trusting Faith.
There is a war in today’s society over where we will place our faith. As we are inundated with messages in media, we don’t recognize how culture shapes or values until Holy Spirit challenges us to reflect the values of God’s kingdom.
Pastor Carl taught from Romans Romans 1:16–17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.”
Paul was quoting the prophet Habakkuk who told God’s covenant people that they may not see God at work, but if they will remain faithful they will see the deliverance of God. He called that living by faith. We see this so much more in our society than even in the days of Paul. In our postmodern world that demands rationalism, God is asking for us to trust Him when we don’t see what we have heard promised. This faithfulness releases the promise of God in our lives.
As we see in justice prevail in our society we need to exercise this trusting faith in the living God so we can see His deliverance in our lives. This is countercultural spiritual formation. We have to consciously refused to be transformed to the culture of South Florida and instead be transformed to the kingdom of God.
Jesus taught that when we are faithful with our finances, God will entrust to us true riches (Luke 16:10-11). There are many people today who have their blessings held up because they’re scared to be faithful to God and trust him in every area of their lives, from finances to fiancés. As we are faithful to God with the first of our increase, God is faithful to release hidden manna in our lives (Revelation 2:17).
We were encouraged to revisit the questions we are praying through in the season:
- What does God want me to believe?
- Where does God want me to trust?
- How does God want me to obey?
Take time out of your busy schedule this week and spend time with God asking each of these questions. Spent time journaling through the answers and praying how God would have you began to believe, trust and obey so that you can walk in his full blessings.
